I shot that water tower scene from an oblique angle, making it appear to lean. I was trying to control some foreground elements. Say "la vee".  ;)

I like the shadow on the road on the backdrop; it helps make the road disappear

I like moving the water tower back from the tracks a bit. It looks better to me and makes it less likely to get engulfed in a massive fireball during derailments!

Best wishes, Dave

I agree. By hindsight, I would have "moved" that larger water tower "back". The prototype is pretty close to the tracks however.

Hopefully, those nasty derailments won't happen on the 1:160th Weyauwega. I guess I'll drain the gasoline outta my Atlas tank cars. They really don't hold propane well either. That was probably too prototypical anyways.

Say "la vee".  ;)

I could, but that doesn't mean anything.

Sorry sirs. Its been busy for me lately. I finally got around to putting some banding on the lumber bunks. Frankly, I'd rather be applying individual number decals on N scale numberboards.

(Note to self: Apply banding BEFORE gluing bunks to rack )

In other news:

I have started to think about the next areas of the layout to apply scenery to. The Neenah yard area needs some attention. I have begun to think about what the "world famous" Neenah foundry might look like. It is too bad that Traincat is on leave for now (and God speed sir), elst I might be able to pick up a couple of his overhead crane kits. Maybe I can simulate something with the Walthers roller mill building sets I have. It will not be perfect, but maybe it can represent the overhead crane etc. that is next to the mainline here.

Here is a picture of the area with some building walls scattered around for my visualization. Maybe I can use part of the roller mill walls to help hide the disappearance of the Rix bridge in the far background. There is not really a building that massive right next to this overpass south of town (maybe I'll cut the roof down), but there are several industries along the mainline in that vicinity... Hmmm, thinking...

Another industry next to the yard ladder that does not have rail service. Again, just visualizing.

As to the sign's location, I could tell you but...   ;)

Now, are ever going to tell us where this sign is....?  :?  ;)

Still working on a "couplah" kits.

Still trying to come up with some kind of overhead crane for this foundry scene. I'd rather use a traincat model, but I can't make it out east this weekend. I'll keep working on kitbashing this one for now.

Also a few more background elements here and there. Just trying some placement in different spots.

You're getting the hang of those background structures, that's for sure.  Looking really good.

It makes me smile to see the WAPL sign. Let's be perfectly clear here. Appleton, Wisconsin does not, nor will it ever, rock! Every time we visit Wisconsin, my wife and I bet the over/under on how long it takes for songs by Boston to come on the radio, and how many we will hear during our trip. The overall observations are "very soon" and "quite often", respectively. It's more than a feeling! :)

The layout looks great, and I concur with Bryan that your background elements have turned out really well.

Best wishes, Dave

Ahh, the magic of paint (and windows/doors). A roof, a couple of exhaust fans for those empty spots, and some glass might be nice..., and the steps, then the planting in mud, then...
