Geoff Gooderham kit cars

I'd like to add Geoff Gooderham's line of CPR kit cars (both passenger and freight) to my website. If you have any pictures that you'd care to share, I'd be most appreciative. The Central Hobbies web listings are pretty bare bones.

Thanks!
-Mark

Thanks a million Puddington, I knew you'd come through for me  :D

Re the steelside baggage express, Central Hobbies lists a "4434-4479" and a "4700-4789". Are they the same model?

Also, do you have an express reefer or a Dominion stock car?

Thanks!
-Mark

Bryan; The Dominion built cars (and frankly, those built by nine other Canadian builders under the Fowler design) were built from about 1896 to just after the first world war. References I have read see some still in revenue service as late as 1965 and most likely into the early 70's. They remained in MOW service for who knows how long and I wouldn't bet more than a beer that one or two might not still be holding tools or cable somewhere on the CPR system today.

Are there any online pics of the cars in revenue service in the 1940s/1950s?

Archbar trucks in the 1950s, so these cars were not in revenue interchange service at this time?

Is the Gooderham kit equipped with the original wooden doors only, or is there a version with a replacement steel door?  No pics on the Central Hobbies website.

Bryan,

The January 1953 ORER still shows the CPR had 11987 36' steel frame box cars (the Dominion (Fowler) design) in revenue service in series 170000 - 191999, a further 1596 in series 100000 - 129999, a further 1425 in series 200000 - 213999 (the series in the photos Puddington posted) and a further 863 in various series.  Cars identified as having "Steel CenterSills" rather than "Steel Frame" are not included.  At this date, the Dominion (Fowler) cars still represented almost 1/3 of the total CPR box car fleet.  [edit:  In contrast, at the same time the 36' Dominion cars comprised only 11% of CN's revenue box car fleet.]  While many would have been primarily for grain service, almost certainly there were a significant number that had had the arch bar trucks and K-type brakes replaced with cast steel trucks and AB brakes.  I believe arch bar trucks were still legal for interchange service in Canada  for some time after they were outlawed in the US.

Cheers,

I bought that Fowler boxcar kit several years ago. Still sitting in the box, yeah I'm on the ball  :RUEffinKiddingMe:

EDIT: Mine is from Kaslo Shops 36' fowler boxcar steel roof NK-7 and comes with 4 different doors. Narrow and wide steel also narrow and wide wood dorrs.
