Bachmann Decapod

What's the word on the Bachmann Decapod. I've gotten some great advice on good running WM N scale locos but nobody's mentioned the 2-10-0.
Is it a real turd or what?

I would visit spookshows website and see what he has to say about it. I don't have it handy but he is a member here.

I think I checked spookshows website already but unless I missed it I don't see the Bach-man's 2-10-0

It's listed at TexNRails as backordered. anybody know anything about this loco?

They announced this in N about 6+ years ago.
You probably can't find any info because it was never actually made.
Unless someone knows something very recent I haven't found ...?

Pity. That's a great locomotive for WM modeling.

Even is they did the decapod, I don't think it would be a decent stand-in for the WMs.  Their deks were big brutes, I think even bigger than the PRR I1 class.  Bachmann was going to do the russian dek which is a lot smaller.  Hope they do eventually.

I guess I'll go ahead and buy the spectrum 2-8-0. That's not exactly proto for WM either but at least I hear it's a good runner and the paint job looks pretty nice.

Dammit...  Here I thought maybe Bachmann finally came around and decided to do the Russian.

Sorry I got folks stirred up. Maybe TexNRails should take it off their website if the model is fictional.

Western Maryland had two classes of decapod, the I1 and I2. The I2S were the big brutes while the I1 was the "Russian". "Russian" decs were originally made for export to the Red during WWI. Dus to revolution in Russia a number never made it to the docks and were americanized and purchased by and assortment of roads along with the WM. The vapor ware from Bachmann, is of the "Russian" variant, however it never made it to market due to issues in sourcing a cheap, but reliable/powerful motor.

The Erie RR had 75 of the 200 Russian's.  Here is one sitting at the roundhouse in Youngstown, OH. Notice how it is still "Russian" and hasn't been Americanized yet. Doesn't even have a front coupler yet.

Also the main drive rod is extended out from the drivers. That is because they were built for a wider gauge over in Russia and had to be narrowed to be used here. Funny cause the Erie used to be broad gauge  :)

B'mann does offer  2-10-2 in n-scale with DC/DCC dual mode.  It is a nice engine; however I have not run mine enough to get a "spookshow" = Mark Peterson-level review.
Mine runs smoothly.   The first one I received had disconnect drive rods, so I called the deal and they replaced the engine with a new one.
Mine will eventually get B&O lettering; I took it back to undec.

Thanks for that update Tim. I guess the 2-8-0 will have to suffice until/if they ever build the Dec. They were rough riding, brutish rail busters but used extensively on hilly railines. I'd be happy enough with the Russian versions for my WM layout.
