N Scale Magazine Subcription Suggestions

I think its about time that I subscribe to a N Scale magazine but I can only sub to one magazine. Which one do you think with have the better written articles and or the nicer color pictures. Im not too familar with the choices out there however I do know that there are a couple of them. Im more familiar with N Scale Magazine which Ive read before or should I give N Scale Railroading a try or just stick with good ol Model Railroading Magazine. If there are other suggestions please list them thanks.

Why don't you buy one of each for a few issues, then decide on a subscription?

Tough question to answer in this forum, as a number of members write for one or the other of the two magazines devoted to N scale, and some write for both.  Best to do as Pete suggested and buy both mags for a few months and make a decision after that.

I like both magazines since I found they usually compliment each other.

I rather enjoy N Scale Magazine. I haven't read N Scale Railroader often so I don't have much to use to compare the two. One e-mag I really enjoy is Model Railroad Hobbyist which is free and has excellent general content, a good amount on N Scale information and a very good forum.

I'm biased toward N Scale Magazine, obviously...  While it's still evolving out of the Hundman past, I think it has a clearer direction, and with only occasional exception, showcases a more consistent quality of modeling.  (The consistency of the articles still needs some work...)   NSR takes more a "big tent" approach, but has some outstanding modelers/authors in the stable.

Both are published bimonthly, and it would make life a lot easier if they alternated publication months so you could get both and a mag show up each month.

MRH has found a niche, and is an interesting format, but I haven't quite gotten my head around "using" it.  I download the pdf, skim through the articles, the pretty much never go back to it.  My guess is that's because I do most of my reading either in bed, out on the porch, or otherwise away from the computer screen.  I suppose a Kindle or some other such gizmo would aid in that, but I'm a bit of a Luddite in that regard.

Try them all on and see what fits.

I personally like NSR as I like their format, layout and presentation. I will say that NSM has improved the last few I picked up at the hobby shop and I'll probably become a subscriber shortly. As for MRH, I liked it when it was bi-monthly, however, I feel I don't get that much out of it as I used to and it feels more like an online edition of RMC, which I can't stand at all. But it's free to download, peruse, and if I don't like the issue, delete from the computer,

Recommending a magazine for someone is rather like trying to tell them which brand of toilet paper to use. Everyone's tastes, needs and sensitivities are individual.

The recommendation to buy a few issues of both is the most pragmatic approach, and you'll learn firsthand which one best serves your interests.

I just subscribed to Railroad Model Craftsman magazine. It seems that every issue, they have plans for a factory or industry that I can scratchbuild.

Does anyone have any reasonably priced back issues they want to get rid of?

David-- That is one of the best statements I have seen in a very long time.  Also adaptable to so many situations.  I hope that I don't offend your tastes, needs or sensitivities if I steal it!
