I finally got the shell to turn a C628 mechanism into an E44!

Lots of work left to do, but you get the idea.  More details in the E33, E44, EF-3 Electrics in FUD (Shapeways) thread.

So where can one buy these "shells"?

There are a few different versions available, along with the E33.

Busy day at the Caliente crossovers...the earthworm is celebrating the fact that all the IM 5161s and ER 5161s are now body mounted and have the correct size wheels.  That was a hike!

Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Wow: moocho marvellous modeling on display this week!
Great job, a$$hats!

Been slammed with work this week, so not much modeling.
Did get an article published in Model Railroad Hobbyist, though, on practical projects to work with kids on model railroading.
http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/magazine/mrh-2012-05-may/kids-and-model-rring
Hope it helps people get the youngsters involved: summer vacation is coming up!

Have a great weekend.

I loved seeing pics of your layout and posts on the Atlas forum, so it's great to see you over here! Welcome.

Best regards,

Great work everyone, M.C. great article in Model Railroad Hobbyist, I particularly enjoyed the chart suggesting the ages at which to involve kids in various partso of the hobby.  My grandkids want to help build my layout so it was most insightful.

Thanks!
Also check out Dr. Dave's groovy thread on the project he's doing with his son.

Enjoy the time with the grandkids AND model railroading  :D
(Watch out, though: sometimes the kids grow faster than the layout!)

With all the talk about rapid prototyping, I decided to pull out some photos that havn't been seen in years:

Mark4Design GP38-2 shell on an Atlas GP40-2 chassis
There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

Ummm, Bryan ol' buddy, ol' pal.  Any chance you have extras of those doors laying around that you'd be interested in selling?  I have 27 of the RC cars and really hate seeing the same doors when there are so many others out there.  I just don't have the patience (or know how) to etch parts.  Maybe that'l change in a few years, but who knows.

x2

Been looking for a way to those RAVE doors for a while now.

I spent a good deal of the week-end scratch-building a new house.  I just placed it on the layout for photo purposes as I am running out of real estate and need to find a suitable location or (gulp!) perform some urban renewal!  :D

Just checking in ...transplant lurker from the Atlas Forum. Enjoy everyone's work, and hopefully will have some of my own to add. About 15 years of modeling. Never a layout, but finally laying track on benchwork that has been in place for 4 yrs since moving to NC. Better late than never...will finally get around to running some trains. See y'all up the line.

Got my eyeballs on one of those new ESM X58 cars in Lehigh Valley this weekend...  They are absolutely stunning.

Sadly, I needed another half tank of gas to get home from the Rail B Q, otherwise I'd have one.

I have to get used to this modern age of getting what you pay for... when you can afford to pay for it!
Great work, Bryan.

(BTW, you can get them from the Conrail Historical Society gift shop...)
