Applications of SM Resistors?

So I am in limited space and would prefer to save as much as I can...my thoughts were to use a surface mount style resistor to save space. The question is there an issue using an SM resistor in a coaxial manner, not mounting it to a PCB? Theoretically I should just be able to solder it in line....

Thanks,
The S.

I've soldered them inline and they are just floating. Just make sure the ends don't short on anything. Some of mine are "floating" over a metal frame so I just stuck a piece of kapton tape to the metal so the resistor doesn't short.

I've done the floating solder too.. but ended up using some clear caulk to "shrink wrap" it..  I was just to worried with it floating out in space like that ;)

Exactly what I was thinking! I was going to wrap it up with some capton tape. WIN!

I do the floating method also and use a piece of shrink tubing.
