M:160 Photo of the Week

Don't know if you guys are following M:160's photo of the week series, but there's been some good stuff posted that highlights what can be accomplished in N scale.  This week's photo is an outstanding shot of Mike Danneman's snow scene near Moffat Tunnel.  Check it out:

That is just simply stunning. I cannot imagine any modeler observing that and claiming N scale hasn't got what it takes.

The ridge of snow between the rails, showing that the plows were working is a nice touch. Like Bob, I would have said it was a photo of the actual line without the info about the painted glass. NICE!

It is a testament to the modeling talent of Mike Danneman... just incredible.

Scott Lupia's Bridge 60 scene is also worth noting. Those U-Boats are beautiful!

Seeing the quality work of others is inspriring, yet makes me sad when compared to my modeling talents... which are akin to a blind woodsman hacking away at a stump

For me one of the truly best parts of that image is how the background matches the foreground... I can count on one-hand the number of layouts that I've seen where that's been done successfully.

Wait... there is no snow on the train... meh.... 

On a serious note, Mike's ability (Artistry) of his backgrounds is hands down the best I've ever seen in any scale. I don't normally get MR mag, but when they did a story on his layout I was blown away at the 2 page shot with trains snaking the loops on the front range. Jaw dropping... the depth of the scene is just to good.

I must have watched this about 30 times when I came across it...

You should read the caption over at M:160. 

No photoshop trickery here, Mike shot the photo through a piece of glass splattered with white paint to get the look of falling snow.
