I don't know about you but those pic's on Nscale Supply are pretty damn nice; that's a really nice hack... yes; flanges are a bit excessive but as Lee said.... that's easy to fix..... glass, sills, see through steps, grabs looks great, rivets look ok.. wow....

I can't wait to see the A Board gentry go at this one...... they'll really have to dig deep... I suspect paint questions will equal instant death....

Remember rule 4; It's a Barfmann, so it's crap...................

Looks awesome!  Does Bachmann do new paint schemes every so often or is this it?  It'd be nothing to strip and paint one for Conrail, but if that's still a possibility I may as well let my wallet rest a few months.

You know, I was going to join the chorus against that Trainboard thread but then remembered my sudden disappointment when Kato totally botched the fonts on their Pennsy GG1 single-stripe scheme.  In time I accepted the deviations and at last now have one waiting under the Christmas tree.  In the end I sometimes have to step back to realize that life's pretty good when we have two NE steel cabooses to choose from (or a flawlessly-operating GG1) whose appearance doesn't significantly diminish the fun.  Prototype is good, and the more proto, the better in my mind, but at some point it's worth taking a breath.

I hope you MEC fans can make a go of this with some weathering or a repaint.  It reminds me of the Atlas C&O Trainman caboose.  I was shocked at how crisp and fine that caboose was, given the Trainman moniker.  Bachmann has shown that it's serious over the past few years and I for one am thankful for that.

The n scale supply photo does look a lot better. I guess I'll get one and see what it looks like. If it is a close match bye bye lifelike fleet.

I agree with Dave.  This looks really nice.  And I'd much rather have this to go on, than not have it at all.

(and honestly, I haven't purchased a new train in 16 years, so I couldn't care less, just as long as it moves and it's made of a material that I can cut/glue/paint...)

I doubt if the flanges are an issue, Bachmann was an early "abandoner" of pizza cutters (mid 80s or prior?).

The model looks good from that distance (ie the pix on N Scale Supply). Full report next week (or sooner if someone else gives good photos). I am very curious about ride height.

Sure looks like Andrews trucks.  They are tender trucks that also found their way under a lot of older cabooses.  What looks like large flanges is simply the outer rim of the wheels.

The tank car looks really good as well but it doesn't look like a 10,000 gallon car... the tank looks too small.  In comparing the model to Intermountain's 8.000 gal. model it looks like it is closer to it in capacity.  Ironically earlier today I was looking at diagrams of the Central of Georgia tank cars that the Southern acquired when they merged the line and this model looks more like one of their 8,000 gal. tanks.  The CofG had cars that matched both the Bachmann and IM models with both being good matches but the Bachmann tank would need rivets for it to look more appropriate for an older tank car.

If someone gets their hands on one of these models would you please post the diameter of the tank and the car length (scale or prototype measurements are fine... real measurements can be easily converted)... this will help to confirm if I am correct about the car or not.

I'll definatley get a WM out of this batch they look really good! I like some of Bmanns new stuff I love my Chessie bmann GP7 it runs well the Chessie paint looks really good and the handrails also look really good. I'm going to get there B&O GP7 next! I hope they release more schemes soon.

The N&W lettering is incorrect. But still looks "OK"



Flanges run fine on Atlas Code 55.



Compares favorably to Atlas NE-6 (except Atlas got the lettering correct!)

Overall, a great model, especially for the money. The Andrews trucks (incorrect for N&W) look to be an easy swap. The stove pipe needs "adjustment". The roofwalk is molded in, but looks nice.
