No modeling for me...  yet.

I would love to take this recovery time to hit a whole bunch of projects, but I want to wait until I'm feeling more steady.



Amazing how "puffy" I look in this picture; I'd been filled with several bags of saline and antibiotics.

I've begun potentially the hardest scratchbuild passenger project I'm yet to attempt.

The "Mount" series of Solarium - Observation - Sleepers were a rebuild out of the third "Mount" cars to be built in the 1920's. These all steel observation sleepers were built for the Trans Canada Limited and were, in 1936 re-built with enclose observation platforms as was the common practice of the day.

The "Mount" series were used on CPR's "Dominion"; specifically on the Toronto section (The "Cape" Solaium cars were used on the Montreal section) As I have built a "Cape" I want to add a "Mount" to "complete the set"....

I am fortunate that BCR makes an outstanding HO model and has graciously posted the plans and side pics of their model. I have scaled these for N scale and have created cardboard sides which I have applied to a Riverrosi ATSF combine, saved the side door at one end and then sanded down the sides to thin them for 0.010 stryene sides. Now that I've fine tuned the size using the cardboard cut outs I have a very accurate scale side plan.

This is the BCR model and plan at n scale size.



So far I have the styrene sides cut, windows removed and sanded. Next is the long task of adding Archer rivets (which I have never used) and adding 0.010 x 0.020 strip for belt rails.

Dave, you are on the road of recovery and that is what is most important... especially so for you and all your friends on the forum.  It will take time but you'll be back at it soon... don't do like me and try to kill yourself posting to the forum (unless you are up to it, that is), I am sure we will all understand.

Puddy... you're gonna have another beautiful car there!!!  The CPR had some of the nicest heavyweights I have ever ran across, uncommon designs not found on any other road.  While it adds a bit of difficulty to the building of the cars you already have a good bit of experience and I am sure that this one will turn out to be a great one!!!  Looking forward to seeing it finished.

Oh, come on, Dave.  Admit it, ever since you made "light bird," you've let yourself go.  First, you claim it's the fluids and drugs causing you to be "puffy," but you know it's really from sitting at your comfy desk job as a lieutenant colonel with a doctorate.  Most recently, it's become, "My back hurts."  Toughen up, soldier, and get back to work.

I finished a quick model for the Yahoo N Scale Vehicle Association IHC R-190 project.  The main one is a little more involved so I will just post a progress shot.  I certainly didn't go to the lengths Dan did, like stripping the paint or anything but converting the tank was pretty fun.





This one is the one I'm working on currently...think logging.

I've done 4 years and 2 deployments with the Army doing combat weather support.  I always enjoy working with them.  To date I've served with:  JRTC (EMCC), 2 ACR, 1 AD, 17 AVN BDE, and EUSA.  If I get selected for Senior Service School my druthers would be for Army War College versus Air War College.

On a modeling note, I am right now painting my PC SW9 (thanks to Sirenworks for the loaner compressor)
Just have a few more coats of paint to apply,then the decals go on (I hope I don't screw that part up  :scared: )
Wish me luck!

Oh,and I picked up a FVM B&O wagontop boxcar at Moose caboose today,what a schweet model!
