So I'm working through a rather long list of cars to present for consideration and trying to stay somewhere north of the transition era.  The PD 3000 covered hopper is really attractive, but I am worried about enough paint schemes and numbers to make this a consideration.  Anyone know of a list of roads/private owners of this car?  We've seen private owner cars kinda up and down in sales so I don't want to discount anything that may not have been owned by UP or the rest...would be a plus though.

I think these would be popular regardless of road names - and doubly so if you mixed the PC/CR stuff with some of the private road names.

I would definatley like to see these cars produced! It would be a good car for runner paks, I would purchase all the Conrail family of railroads and some private roads, I think I've seen these or a very similar car in Santa Fe paint so I'm sure there are a variety of roads I will see if I can locate the picture and post it.

For whatever reason, these have always seen these cars in and around Framingham. Back in the early 1990's they were used in Flexi-Flo service with a transloading station located on the current Framingham MBTA stop. This stopped around 1993/1994. After this these appear off and on with various private owners. I'm not sure where these go, but I do see them roll by Norwood sometimes.

The cars have an early 1960's appeal with the small stature and interesting lines. They sure have lived well.

Very interesting that so many private leasing schemes ended up on these.  Obviously variations on the "Flexi-Flo" scheme in Penn Central would be my choice for first runs, but then I don't know how well leasing company schemes do compared to actual railroads when it comes to sales.

Large PD cars go up CP's Havelock Sub to the mines at Blue Mtn. nowadays, so I could find a reason to get a couple NATX cars (assuming you'd do more than one road number) to head up there in the 1980's since I'm going to include the traffic to/from the Havelock on my layout, if not part of the line. Another 10%er here... though I'd grab a CR or two for sure, so I'm in the 100%.

In the end, so long as the body style was around in the 1980's and could be reasonably seen in Southern Ontario, I'm in.

This is certainly a visually interesting prototype. 

Were these used regionally or might one see them in service outside the northeast?

I think they were also used in food/flower/corn/talc starch service

I dont think Southern Railway had any(at least I can't find any pics if they did). But I would still like some in a couple of  private road names.
