Your first N scale picture that you said "wow" to...

I really REALLY suck at scenery still, so I don't really have any pictures that make me go "Wow" of anyting of mine. But I have had modelers here and on other boards, that I consiter the masters of N scale, Give compliments and Kudos for pictures of projects before. The is a few people that responded to projects with "Wow, that's impressive" that made me realize I was on the right track with kitbashing and scratchbuilding....

I agree with David. However, should there be a "hall of fame" waiting period before moving threads? Maybe it is just my perception, but it seems to me that moving threads to the "Best Of" results in their premature death. Maybe a week or so since the last post would suffice? Just a thought.

Keep posting photos folks. We know that that there are still some goodies out there. I suspect that some people are too modest to think that there stuff is Wow Worthy. Don't make us have to ask for you by name!

There is the "then" wow.... and the "now" wow... when I started the thread I was refering to the "then" wow.... but seeing what members have posted here, both old and new it's really quite something....

I generally don't take alot of photos other than a few in progress ones because I'm usually embarrassed by my final results. While not of the same awe inspiring quality as the work others have posted, this picture is the one that made me think I was at least on the right track.

This is my kinda one... I never got to a point on the old layout where I had a section "finished" where I got the wow I was looking for. Heres to hoping the new one does!



And then there is my old old Pittsburgh Line layout...with a to scale Horseshoe Curve... Wish I had not sold all those coalporters!!!! If you bought em from me I'm willing to buy them back!

This was it for me .. the first version of the M&O, circa 2000 .. right after I moved into the house ..

I finally realized my dream of a basement to put a layout in .. alas, this one is long gone ..

This topic got me thinking and searching for old photos from my first layout, unfortunately, these were the only two left, but boy do they bring back memories!





Lot of good lessons learned on the layout, and it also has me wondering- where the hell did that old SOO GP38 go?

This is embarrassing. The first image that said, "Hey, I can really do this type of photography!" was so prototypically incorrect that I blush to post it. It's this one:

Rich Yourstone images are my goal. Lance Mindheim's modeling--well, that's a goal too, but I'm realistic. And Fine Scale Models in the ship arena--probably never to be achieved again.

Wowwwwhowww... Lots of wow stuff so far.

For me it was these two shots from my 12" wide sectional that made me relize what could be done with Nscale in small spaces.

First, I have no idea how to attach photos to posts.  But my first wow was to Doug Nelson's PRR Middle Division.  I beleive he is now the moderator on the PRR N Scale Yahoo Group.  The photos of his layout make me want to model 1950's PRR even though I was not born until after the PRR was gone.  An honorable mention goes to Dave Volmer's work.  Thanks.

This bridge scene was one I worked toward for some time and have redone it a few times now. The scene has been partially stripped again waiting for me to get to work on it. One item I think I will add for sure is a retaining wall supporting the lower track behind the bridge. I also plan to lower the embankment behind the bridge leading into the canyon creating a small creek bed. My hope is to create more depth in the scene.
The scene really got my juices flowing and I still get a kick out of trains rolling over and under it. There is no proto inspiration for it so I guess you can say I freelanced this one.

I really love this thread! It's really neat to see where everyone "came from" and are going to! This photo isn't anything special, just a test shot while playing with my camera phone however I always liked how the trucks (flanges in particular) reflected the light. I can't wait to see what things look like when I finish detailing both the car and the scene.

I know that this photo exposes a lot of my modeling shortcomings, but I still like the overall effect.



In a similar vein, I really like the overall look of this shot, despite the fact that there are several oversights.  This shot is particularly special because given Altoona's final position, I will never be able to get a camera in this position again.



This one was a total accident.  The layout was in a bedroom with mirrored closet doors.  I didn't realize the effect until after I had taken the photo.



These last two were taken on Todd Treaster's layout.  The equipment and photography are mine.
