Weekend Update 10/2/11

Finished the brass components of the Large Substation this week. Many thanks to Bob and Lance for the photos. Now I have to work on the transformer masters.

Looking good everyone!  All yard work and no trains for me this weekend.

Nothing for me this week, but I did make it out to my parents earlier in the week and checked out my Dad's track work progress on his New Haven RR layout.

Track is Micro Engineering Code 55 and all points are scratch-built using a Fastracks #8 jig.

Here's a couple of quick shots of the area around Devon Junction:





Dad's pretty happy with the kink he's been able to replicate in the alignment as the tracks prepare to cross the Housatonic River

And finally, here's a couple of curved #8s in the cutting area coming out of New Haven station - the town of New Haven will sit to the right:



Considering the North Eastern setting of the layout and mid-60s era, I'm sure it will be of interest to many folk here so I've registered Dad (Jim Costello) as a user and I'll have to sit down with him and get a Layout Engineering Report happening for him. We'll get a track plan sorted and some better photos as progress continues.

Dad's trackwork is looking great James.  Should be a blast to watch a train snake through those crossovers.  Looking forward to future updates.

Looks like there's been some pretty serious seismic activity affecting that bridge.

On a different note, y'know how they say that the camera will catch any of your modeling errors that you may have missed? Well, it wasn't until I posted the picture of my control panels above that I noticed the labeling was completely missing on one of the switches. 

It's now been fixed--I'm just glad I didn't get any further along before I noticed it. It would have been a real bear to replace the faceplate once the wiring started going in underneath.

Your father's layout looks great!! That used to be my neck of the woods so the big question for New Haven is: Is he going to model Sally's or Pepe's Pizza?

Looks really good Skip, probably do the same with my 4-6-0. Is this close to the prototype?
