Shot this today over in Alexandria, Va.  Anyone know what that piece of equipment on the roof is used for?

On on the Food Service Cars.

On-board WiFi? Some of VIA's first class coaches have these radio domes so they can provide on-board wireless internet for travellers. This arrangement looks a little different, but it's definately and antenna array of some sort.

That is probably it. When I went to Raleigh on the Carolinian 2 weeks ago, they mentioned they would have it on the train starting October 1st so that could very well be the wi-fi antenna. And since they run in sets, putting on the cafe car would make sense,

Yeah, I believe Amtrak is on a push to get wi-fi on their trains across the system. I know 30th St. Station had it plastered everywhere for in-station as well as coming soon to the train,

It is a wifi antenna. All cafe and dining cars are to be outfitted for east coast trains. Not sure about the superliners.

Nice one Lee.

Now who will be the first to do an aftermarket upgrade for all those Kato cars?  David, here's a chance to beat everyone on something new.
