Screws for MT couplers?

What screws do you use to attach MT couplers to the underframe?

I have a bunch of cars where I cut off the coupler, in hopes of one day putting on a z scale coupler.  But I no longer have the desire to buy $100 in z scale 905s! ;D

I've got a bunch, but if you're talking about reattaching the coupler box from a truck mount, you'll find that it's too wide... when you body mount that hog, the trucks won't pivot enough to get you through those 9-3/4" unitrak curves that I know you have deep in the darkest corner of your closet... ;)

I use 00-90 3/16 long flat head screws on my 1015's and 2005's . Chris turned me on to a cheap source , Small Parts . com .

I concur, on both the choice of screw and the source.

Better price here depending on how many you need.  I bought 1000 for just over $100.00

Normally I use MTL screws collected over the years.
If I need the clearance over the coupler box, such as for the Bowser H21a hoppers, I use flat head screws.  I used the ones sold by Walthers, maybe not the cheapest, but they can be ordered without problems.

Here in Germany metric screws are the norm.

The problem with flathead screws from Smallparts.com is that the head is quite wide, and protrude above (below) the coupler box. The stock screws supplied by MTL are narrower and fit all the way into the countersink in the box. The heads on the screws from J.I. Morris look more like the M-T heads, but the minimum order quantities are really high.

Too bad MT doesn't sell them like they do their longer 1015 screws.

Put it in the wish list. (I hope Joe has the time and patience to wade through that beast...)

I countersink the MTL box with a few twists of a large bit .

That gets a little risky with the Z scale coupler box.
