After hearing Ed blather on about how great N scale is, and after seeing pics of layouts like the Laurel Valley and the Juniata, maybe I've got a hollow core door I could do something with. At Conrail days today, I bought the above before I knew what I was doing....

I'm thinking a kidney for roundy-roundy and maybe 3 or 4 sidings for switching. I'm justifying this by saying it's a proof of concept for the HO I have already invested so much in. Yeah, that's it....

Wahahahaha another Conrail modeler in N scale. I'm starting to think Richie is our loan West coast holdout

Wasn't that the railroad ran by prisoners...hahaha
Russ, in 2006 I put together an Excel spreadsheet
of all of my HO and off to three shows over the
course of the year in suburban Los Angeles. I figured
big city, I had tons of stuff. I made enough (by taking
a bath on my prices) to convert. It didn't take long.
I started with one SP Athearn box car...Like David
Popp, he stated with a 40' NH box. Good luck and
welcome to the core door whores.

I've got a supply of 36" HCD's at the ReStore.  I'll GIVE you as many as you think you'll need.

As for proof of concept, you'll prove that you have room for a lot more railroad if the trains are a bit smaller... ;D

So here's what I'm thinking for my N scale railroad:

Location: Central Pennsylvania
Time period: 1983 (ish)
Season: Summer
Railroad Name: Conrail - Standing Stone Branch
Commodities hauled: lumber, finished goods, grain, cement, food

So seeing as I'm new to N, anyone got any track plan ideas for me? Figure on 2-3 hollow core doors for space. Also, I want the capability of a 'roundy roundy' it can be via loops at each end, or a continuous loop. I'll have dcc control, so reverse loops and wyes are not a big deal.

Thoughts?

First a diagram of your available space so we can see how those door panels can work together.  Also, note if you're running along the wall, or if there are aisles to work from.
