Weekend Update 5/15/11

As always, some very nice work on here.  The code 40 handlaid turnouts look fantastic!

I'm still working on my GP40-2 upgrades.  I have almost all the add on details installed now.  Sprayed a few lights coats of black on the long hood, the cab roof, and the front/rear pilot area.  Need to spray them again then I'll move onto the orange.  Did brush paint an orange coat onto the horn, and it's temporarily in place just to see how it looks.

Mike, two things I would like to mention if you don't mind. painting CN models, it is always better to paint the CN red first and then the black paint (lighter paint first). if you paint black first you have to paint white or ligth gray before the red or it will not cover the black properly and you end up with a too thick layer of paint. I don't know what paint brand you are using but Badger model flex #16-183 New Haven Socony Red is spot on for CN.

Ahh,  I debated that issue for a bit and was thinking the same thing but thought it might be easier to tape off the black area rather the red.   So,  shooting it with a white primer first will now be the best course of action for proper coverage?   As far as paint,  I picked up tru-color cn orange (don't have the paint number handy now). The black is from the same firm and so far I'm impressed with it, but any thoughts how that color matches up?

Also, with that cab door open does the inside need to be painted a different color?

Nice work guys.

Weathered one car and a caboose:


The caboose is done really light because I wanted to give the impression it went through a recent "fast shopping". Some of the pictures of BN Extended vision cabooses show the top few rungs simply cut out of the ladders, the "loop" railings gone, but the roofwalks intact.

Also came up with something for painting wheelsets en masse:

I don't know what is was, but I think it might be some kind of pistol ammo holder. Would like to find a 2nd so I could hit both sides at once.

Also fixed my car's ABS system, and took a picture of the "Bilstein technology tested on Nürburgring Nordschleife" badge when I was at it, and began working on a police report against some of my former co-workers.

I've also painted the red first, but I suppose it can work either way.  Here are some shots from last year when I did it:









My red is a 50:50 mixture of Model Master Chevy Red and Polly Scale International Orange.  Depending on the age of the locomotive and the specific paint lot, there was quite a bit of variance to the standard red.  Some were almost a bit orange when weathered.
