Sure could use some of those loads, but I also can't help but keep looking at those N&W steam locos.  Anyone have any idea how these run and are they dcc ready/equipped?  I have no need for one and it certainly won't fit well with my mid 2000's IC/CN based layout, but I clearly remember a ride behind one with my grandfather when I was a little kid.

You might want to contact them regarding your commission. I went there to pick up a couple of crushed glass loads for the Beer Line and left having spent $100 on additional items.

They are hit or miss, with mostly hit. I have two and they run very well (despite the crappy 3 pole motor) but one of them arrived DOA and since I bought it from a etailer that basically told me I'm on my own (my last order with said etailer) - I was lucky to have Victor take a look at it and make it well.

They pull very well and are DCC equipped (I run DC though).

The model itself is a very good representation of the J.

To the best of my knowledge, the Js were not DCC equipped. It is DCC ready with a speaker housing in the tender.

ok the kalmbach boys keep going on about crushed glass and beer, but I just can't understand the link between brewing booze and crushed glass is it like a flavour thing? or macho thing to drink beer mixed with crushed glass?

In the good old days (through the 1970s or so), the Milwaukee Road shipped around a hundred or so insulated boxcars of beer a day on the Beer Line. This was also during the days of bottle returns, so they had a similar number of incoming returns. The volume of bottles being handled resulted in a fair amount of broken glass and a hopper car a week of broken glass was shipped out for recycling. This commodity is known as cullet and was typically shipped in a twin bay rib side open hopper (rebuilt from old offset side cars) such as this one.

The Hay Bros loads are outstanding. When I come across them, I buy them. 

I seem to have many more that I have cars to put them in.

A couple of times I have bought the load then bought the car to put the load in.

Talk about the cart before the horse.
