Well, a ten inch wide print of that photo snagged a 1st place ribbon in the transportation category for me in photo competion up at the Bala Cranberry Festival last fall.

I'm not passing judgement on the shot Lenny, just sayin' RP would not accept it... I've had some experience with their screening.

Oh I know, it is just that the clouds are what made my pic.  I love shooting under threatening skies, a lot of photographers do.  I guess I just can't get my head around a bunch of control freaks wanting only sunny shots pretending they know what makes a good photo.

While I agree, it is their football. Also, "good" is a highly subjective term. Perhaps, for the purposes of good documentation, cloudy skies might be considered too "artsy fartsy" for them.

Photography is all about light and one of the worst times for shooting is mid day when it is very sunny.   The light is very harsh will produce too much contrast and the shadows can prove quite difficult to deal with.  Full sun also produces the most haze which also not all that desirable.   A mid day shot under light overcast will yield even light with little to no shadows which works well for "documentation" type photos.

OK.....Heres my side of RP. I think you guys are going about this the wrong way. For YEARS I had MANY shots rejected from RP for whatever reasons and I was pissed. But then I used it to better my shooting skillz. Yes there are several photos that do seem to slip though the cracks, but I still think of RP as the best of the best for those who want to widely share their images.

I have had 10 photos accepted so far, and I like the challenge of trying to produce a high quality product.
I WANNA SEE THE BOAT MOVIE!

Yes... I'm in N... Also HO and 1:1

I sent an hour or so cruising the site. Seems like any wreck shot gets in. But the quality is high. Two shots really caught my eye:

This one is my winner. Amazing ethereal light.

Agreed... this is the exact reason why I avoid RP, unless as a last resort to locate proto-photos. Even with all the ad and pop-up blockers I have installed, one pop-up never fails to work it's way through from RP.
