Why I was pissed off about Winterfest

Winterfest is put on my N-trak. It includes clinics of Friday (I didn't attend), the Saturday night dinner (also didn't attend) and of course, running N-trak at Springfield. My two reasons for joinng this year was to run trains for a few hours and submit some models for the contest. I picked my favorite projects of the last two years:

My SW1500

Alaska (Mass Central loaner) F7

This.... thing.... won:

With my SW1500 I printed the entire N-Scale article explaining the kitbash. Still everyone kept refering to it as "the LL SW1200". WTF.
I didn't even place.

Daniel,

I'd be pissed and disappointed and stunned.

Sorry man, that stinks.  Just for fun you should cart that to a Prototype Modelers meet some time - probably be the only N scale entry, definitely the only n scale Conrail entry, and thus likely to take all the marbles.

You gotta do this stuff for yourself, I like your models, I mean the Dash 9 is just an exercise in Dul Cote and alcohol.  Look at popular voting in politics- some of the people holding office- you get the idea...

That bites..Your CR SW1500 is far superior to that monstrosity that won.

About the LL SW1200 comment.

All to sadly a lot of modelers doesn't know a SW1500 from a SW7..Its sad really with all the available information.

There was a lot of grumbling about the absurd contest results, along with a whole bunch of other stuff. Not to disparage anyone in particular, but the communications distributed from that group... well... sucked. No confirmation that your payment was received. Then you had to enter the building to get your badge--huh? Well, how do I get in without one? Their "information" packet didn't even tell you where the dinner was held--they assumed you knew. No fault of theirs, but just to add insult to injury, the food was awful, not to mention late; we sat down at 6:30 and food arrived after 8:00. I left before the presentations even got under way--I was literally falling asleep in my chair. Never again.

I hear you.

I put photos in for another Forum contest, and didn't even place.  Not that the winners were bad, but not mind blowing.

As a BNSF fan that thing, and I will call it a thing, as it's not good.  It's terrible.  And as mentioned not even numbered correctly.  Yeesh.

Daniel, both your models look awesome.  I daresay that they look so professional that it would be easy to assume they came from the manufacturer like that. You should not have lost to the other model.

That said, this thread makes me a bit uneasy.  A few years ago I'd be joining the chorus of bashing this other guy's model, but these days I want to be better than that.  We know who and what we are here, and I don't know that this is what we'd want in our external-facing forum.  I also don't know this guy's story or circumstance, nor is he here to defend himself, so at worst I'll say Daniel's modeling shows a considerably higher degree of skill and observation of the prototype.
