Andy:

Great video - enjoyed that.  You'll have to teach me how to post those.

Scott:

Welcome - great to see someone modelling CN - keep us posted on your progress.

This afternoon I got to run Nelson yard on Mark Dance's Columbia & Western - lots of fun.

Back to the model desk . . .

As promised, some pics:

Here's how I've joined the two layout sub sections:

These are drywall plastic corner pieces. They bend like a floppy, well, something floppy, in one direction, but in the other they're rigid as hell. Putting them along the edges like this have successfully joined the 2 4' sections together.

And here's the two new MMID SD24s rolling the interchange track back from York to Union Bridge.

The "Project I had given up on" Pennsy 2-10-0 is back together and running. The "given up" topic gave me the initiative to get it back out and try again. I ordered some spare gears from a Bachmann 2-8-0 that were the size I needed and they arrived Friday. The regear makes this thing crawl now. It is still geared taller than I would like but I now have a Trix 2-10-0 that will coast when you cut the throttle, something it surely wouldn't do before, even with the Kato motor and flywheel conversion. It has been running around the test loop for a couple hours now trying to wear in a slight tight spot in the mechanism. It is getting smoother by the minute. I never thought this thing would be smooth enough to crawl a tie at a time but it is working nicely now.

I still need to install the sound decoder back in it and then I will shoot a video for Monday hopefully.

I got excited and made things.

now for the bad news

I got stupid and broke things

I'm now waiting on track to be ordered in from the states to continue, but for the moment I am working on the legs and getting ready to seal it with a coat of paint. In case you're wondering the small module has the brown corse side of the plywood facing up because I did it at 7PM in 40 degree heat (Celsius not Fahrenheit) and wasn't thinking right.

I also need to rethink part of my plan as I discovered that peco and atlas track at not compatible and I think I have a wye piece I purchased for nothing

I finished a working T scale (1:450) cantilever crossing flasher just before heading heading up to the show.

Geesh man, how do you solder on such small stuff? I have issues with surface LEDs let alone structral at that size.

Not much here, adding more insulation to the attic and working on organizing my train room, the only "model railroading" I did was to try to separate the "frame" from the body of my MTL 48' NW trailer using an exacto knife. Man, it seemed like there must have been gobs of glue in there as I got nervous about breaking the shell while attempting to separate the two. Finally got it separated though - the rest should be easier by comparison.

The goal is to make this less of a foob by "chopping" it to be 40' the way BB did:

I'm doing that at the end of February. I took a week off to get through the gut and putting drywall back up. We'll see how long the painting and everything goes after that,

Project Castle Topper continued this week, but no pics.  I had no idea how I was going to tackle the spired roofs, so I ended up walking every aisle in the local Hobby Lobby for ideas, or anything that would work.  I was just about to give up when I came across these weird little plastic tubes with a pointed end for flower arrangements when you place them in foam.  Perfect!

I also got wrangled into taking pictures for the local Horribly Oversized club layout, to update their website.  I'll post pics tonight, as my wife was tying up the PC yesterday with genealogy stuff.

Hi everyone...

The C&W hosted its first Dispatcher/TO operating session.  We ran a 5:1 fastclock (slowed down from our normal 6:1) and things seemed to be workable.  Definitely some scheduling, documentation and TO issues to straighten out but everyone seemed to have a good time.

At the end I videoed a Westbound pusher train the raw video of which I have posted here:

thx to Bill Dixon and Dave Ennis for piloting the train safely to Farron Summit.

I went and played war out at Fort Indiantown Gap, PA. With all the snow it really gave a good impression of it's intended theme Bastogne and the Battle of the Bulge.

Great road shot!

Emplacing a .30 Cal on our right flank.

Retreat into Bastogne

Endex, leaving Stavelot. The far point is our disembarkation point as well as the first point of contact for the Germans (manned by leg-infantry (other units other than my own)).

I also have a new respect for "Roberta" my '43 Ford GPW! We had about 5 miles of tank trails that had some ver steep grades in varying conditions from sludge to 10-12" of snow, she took no prisoners! The highlight was taking a steep large hill, passing (with ease) a stranded Willy's MB and a Dodge WC51 that couldn't make it.
