Indeed, that thread sums up the nature of that whole board.

David, how dare you upset their apple (blueberry? grapefruit?) cart. Shame on you. You're just a troll.

It's interesting how different the reactions are here, vs the other thread you started elsewhere :)

LOL...  Was thinking the same thing.  David B, looks great, but I wonder how that would look with some finer ballast, along the lines of Highball fine or even sandless tile grout.

I still have some code 80, but my recent switch to code 55 was the smartest thing I ever did for the layout extension.  The comparison between the two on the Juniata Division is not quite as startling as the code 40/Unitrack comparison, but profound nonetheless.  It's enough that I still dream of tearing out my code 80 and relaying it with 55.

Paint and ballast does make Unitrack and code 80 as a whole look better, yes.  But suggesting it looks as good as track with scale rail profile and scale ties is dishonest.

I'm anxious to see how Dave Foxx's handlaid code 40 comes out.

Me, too!  Still waiting on the Fast Tracks order, which was placed a few weeks ago.  :(

Wow....

"Here's my Hand laid track what do you think" = Troll
Did they replace the Atlas forum with /B/  :D

Btw the track looks really good my only critique would be the ties are a bit wide (as already mentioned). what spacing did you use for the pc board ties?

i would be interested in seeing code 40 with Highball fine ballast or Smith & Son's...  both would probably set that code 40 off.

Spiked. Look very closely at the tie just to the right of the wheels, and the last tie on the right.

Yes!  I see now. I need better glasses.  lol

Yes, those are the Proto:87 scale spikes (photo etched stainless steel).  They hold pretty well in the thin plywood (baltic birch) roadbed, and they are all but invisible under normal layout lighting without magnification, esp. if you paint them a matching color.

Some folks glue the rail with Pliobond. If I were doing a C40 layout or module I would probably go with either the spikes or the Pliobond, since I like the look of the all-wood ties.  Then for turnouts I would use PCB ties in strategic places, painted to match.

If you're considering this then one idea is to build a short test track, and then maybe a turnout.  The P87 site now has a lot of turnout stuff like photo-etched frogs and machined point rails in C40 that save a lot of work,  plus a bunch of very fine detail parts if you want to take it to that level.

Yes, I have perused the P87 site a few times ogling the nice bits and pieces they have.  One of these days...

A noticed in a goodbye thread over there citing, in part, this thread's counterpart.  That, and Bachmann bashing.  Does anyone still remember how to skip a thread they're not interested in?  LOL

Appears to have been premature. Second thoughts?

Goodbye must not be goodbye anymore.  Oh well.  I've seen David M. Bedard's work before both on A-Board and trains.com...  Clearly an asset to the 'Wire.  Thanks, David, for reminding us why we come here: to be challenged.

I am so tired of "goodbye" threads. Dealing with one of those over on the CRHS site too, and it just drives me up a wall.

I know, right?  Just leave.  It must be the hope that people will beg and plead for you to reconsider.
