Chris Martin's N scale Arizona Mainline

I just returned from three weeks visiting family and friends in Australia including Chris Martin, a fellow N scaler for almost 20 years.  Here are a few clips I grabbed of Chris's layout before catching the train back to Melbourne from Shepparton where Chris lives.

The 10' x 4' layout is intended to replicate a desert scene and a town scene representative of those seen along Rte 66 in Arizona.  The town is loosely based on Kingman AZ. The track is all Atlas c55. Switches are mostly #10 with a few #7's on the secondary tracks. Ballast is AZ R&M N scale Santa Fe ballast secured in using the normal means. Subroadbed is N scale cork on 1/2" MDF baseboard. Scenery is on carved blue extruded foam which has been painted tan and textured with sand and ground foam and blended with an airbrush . Control is via Digitrax DCC.

Photos of the layout including construction are found here:

And also here - Chris tore up the original peco track and scenery and raised the track level after being disappointed with the way the layout was developing.

Take a moment to let Chris know what you think. Living so far off the beaten path he doesn't get a lot of feedback on his efforts.

Cheers,
Coxy

Coxy,
As you know, I've been a big fan of Marto's stuff for a while now - he's really nailed the look of lonely railroad in the desert southwest.  He also appears to be channeling Pelle Sjoberg in terms of his scenery - give him two "Atta Boy's" for me.

P.S.  And tell him to get an internet connection so he can join us here for some realy fun.  We can't have Kiwi_al being the only reporter from down under . . .
