Before we sign up and get all kinds of spam and junk mail for the rest of our lives...
tell us what we get.

Do you actually get to see full articles?

I haven't signed up, however that never was what you got before.  .
You just typed a keyword for subject or railroad and you got a display of relevant matches in all  of the magazines available in the index.  You still had to then find the magazine for the article.

I subscribe to both Model Railroader and Trains and I get an occasional email from them, but they are not nearly as bad as other companies. Anther approach to take is to set up an email address on a free service (gmail,etc...) and ONLY use it for sites for which you don't wish to receive SPAM. I do this for things like news sites and just log in occasionally to clear the decks. For the most part I just ignore it.

As for the Index, it is similar to what existed previously in that you get the table of contents and more importantly to me, a picture of the magazine cover! I used it just the other day to search for an article on tracks scales that I new was in MR and I was able to find the article in my stacks in less than 5 minutes. It does cover fewer magazines than previously, but I for one am very happy to have it back.

Best wishes, Dave

They seem to have refined the search mechanism, which is a good thing. I remember it being less accurate before.

Not the actual full written articles - but handy when searching for a particular 'how-to' and where it's located.
Even better when you happen to have that particular issue stashed away .

"Here's the NMRA one. No sign up."

No results either.  Just tried "Southern Railway" and received no results at all... the form just reset itself.

I just did both. NMRA: 809 results for Southern Railway, 162 on MR's search so I'm not sure what you're doing wrong,

The NMRA version doesn't allow you to click on the article and pull up the magazine issue that contains it, to peruse the rest of the 'zine's contents. The MR version does, like the old site did. The NMRA version also occasionally stutters and duplicates an entry.

It looks like it's set up as a Wiki. That seems dangerous. Funny how the NMRA pokes fun that it's membership (an older demographic) isn't very tech savvy but then they turn them loose to self-manage an asset like this.
