I am aware of all of that...I've been shooting with a D90 for almost two years.  I was just complimenting Mark on his captures.

Didn't know you've been shooting that long. By your statement it sounded as if you didnt know...just trying to help!

Re: numbers on top of tank cars

Shippers of bulk liquids have started photographing their cars after loading to document the proper closing of the cars. Having the car # in the picture is a giant assist.

Have to do that because so many cars are tampered with enroute. The RR's say "it never happened while we had the cars" and will throw responsibility back to the shipper. Hard to argue with pictures.

Point and Shoot mode:

Noooooooooooo!   Seriously, try out A mode for stills or S mode for moving subjects.

Since we are discussing Nikons . . . Anyone have any experience with the D3100?  My wife has finally admitted that, after killing two point and shoots this year we MAY need to get a DSLR.  She likes the 3100 feature wise (and I can definitely make it work for model photography) but she always wants to know what real world experiences are, etc.  I'd love to go with a D40 or D 60, but I need some ammo for the cost deflection issue . . . .

D40 is good.  I've got a D90 and am still learning the ropes on it.  Love the camera plus the fact you can also do videos.

The D3100 is an upgrade of the D40. More MP, Video and more AF Zones.

Go for the D3100 over D40/60.  The major advantage with the D90 is it has an internal auto focus servo to drive AF lenses w/o their own motors.   If you do not
have any such lenses already go with the D3100.
