If what I am told is correct, this loco could open the flood gates for Bachmann to do more smaller prototypes. I forsee the Russian 2-10-0 next. This loco was designed modularly, replaceable domes and stacks on a metal boiler. There is more but I will wait until the loco's are in hand to confirm the details.

I'm very hopeful for this one. It is a very promising step forward.

My targets will be a close enough to UP 1242 and 1243 , both of which were active all the way to 1955 .

This is a nice engine  8)
Would it be adaptable to CMStP&O prototypes ?
If I'm correct, it looks like the Omaha road had lots of 'modernized' 4-6-0.

The only visual downside is Bachmann's policy on putting less than appropriate tenders on these.

The loco looks really nice.

This has been out in HO for a while right? (?) If so maybe the HO crowd worked it out.

That N scale Bachmann 4-6-0 screams Tweetsie RR (ex-ET&WNC) ten-wheeler to me, but standard gauged.  Interestingly, Bachmann makes that 4-6-0 in G scale.

Beautiful locomotive, but I'm sorry, the tender is still bothersome to me.  Obviously the wrong tender for that loco.  I wish they would have taken the time to tool an appropriate tender; I'd be willing to pay a little more for that.  As it is, it would take pretty much a major surgical job to be appropriate for the M&PA.  Would guess shortening the frame by about half plus a whole new tender tank and bunker...

 It's not about a lack of a proper tooled tender, they have one in the short USRA. I have found quite a few pictures of 4-6-0's with a similar Short USRA tender with the higher bunker sides. Many did come with a low side or no side bunker though. For Richie's version, he just needs to shorten up a MP vanderbilt and he is good to go.

The excuse given was that they could not fit their decoder in the smaller tender. Bachmann makes their own decoders using Lenz parts on their own equipment. They don't out source, everything in a Bachmann loco is done in house. Their equipment is not up to par to place components with the precision needed to do a micro decoder yet. I think the Tsunami sound decoders in their HO is the same way, not a true Tsunami but one built by Bachmann using Tsunami parts.

With enough of nads and tools every tender can be convinced to obey .
