Weekend Update 11/28/10

Finished the first company house (well, two really... it's a duplex!) for Thomas, West Virginia.




Obviously there's still plenty of landscaping to do, but I'm going to build 3 or 4 more of these, plus some flats for against the back drop, then I'll whip up some fresh sculptamold to sink the post foundations into...

That scene in the making Lee will be very interesting . Detail rich it and you will have another mag spread . I always liked a company houses setting . Nice weathering on those .

I spent this weekend measuring and making final cuts to pieces to get started on doing the 3 free-standing sections of my layout. I was able to complete one this weekend. Here are some shots:







I also built 5 more L-girders I need and 4 more legs, still need to build 2 more to complete all the base of each of the 2 freestanding sections that remain,

Had to actually read rather than look at the pretty pictures. For a second I thought you'd changed prototypes and were now modeling the LA area.

I spent the weekend building 4 "modules" to go with 2 others I already had.



These are module setup spacers. When MARRS is setting up, if someone's module isn't there yet, we'll be able to clamp one of these in its place and keep going, and be reasonably sure that the module will fit when it eventually arrives.

They're just 1x3 lumber of appropriate length, with clamping blocks at the ends. I made a six-footer, 3 four-footers, and 2 two-footers. (One of the two-footers is edge-on to the camera.)

Finished a project that has been setting on my bench since spring. A little something for the Conrail Queens.

A buddy picked up a lot of three basket case Arnold GG-1's at an auction. They were all new part except for one but had been used as parts donors for other repairs. All were missing motors and worm gears. Combining parts from the 3 of them, 2 MP15 motors from Atlas, and some worms from Kato, we now have 2 very good running loco's. Better than the orignal GG-1.



I decided to paint up one of them in the CR 4800 Bicentenial paint.

Steve, it is on DeForest Rd down by North Rd. Still Warren, but only 2 houses away from Niles boundary line.
