David Smith for President in 2010

On David's web site is a great list of track plans. I'm taking him
up on his request to borrow the plans. Dave Foxx has a plan that
David reworked, The Aberdeen and Rockfish. A great door
plan. Like Dave, I want to burn the armchair, especially with
cooler weather coming. In California that means under 70. I think
2x4 is too small. The door and this plan can be reworked to
represent SD&AE's (SP and now UP) branch from El Centro
to Plaster City or Ocotillo Wells. This could be combined into
a bigger layout at some point to represent Jacumba to San Diego.

I had JJ do a plan for what I thought we be a large room and
The SP Exeter Branch. I want to look at both, SP El Centro
and Sp Exeter in this plan. These are my plans borrowed and
dropped in Paint.

So, something like this...

Adjusted the citrus packing sidings--needed a slightly longer lead at the right end to hold more than one car to be switched.

This is an unmodded HCD, by the way. I don't think it needs the extensions for this plan.

Love the subject line... except... not much of 2010 left. Oh well...

Maybe swing the backdrop divider so it is parallel with the double track main through town?  Wouldn't affect your mountain on the top side, and would make the s-curve into the switchback somewhat less, with the citrus packing siding being parallel as well.

It should be "David K. Smith: The 2010 Railwire Member of the Year."

Good idea.

Oh, by the way, props need to also go to the late Gordon Odegard.  I stole major elements from his A&R track plan that he rendered in the 1960s to come up with the chicken scratch plan that DKS modified.  Who knew Gordy's design would come back to life so well, as we approach the second decade of the 21st century?  But, I love that double-track mainline cutting across the door and the interchange possibilities, not to mention the railfanning and the excuse for neighboring roads' power to be on the layout.

Aw shucks. I'm just having fun. I've gotten to the point that I can knock off plans in AnyRail like lightning, so it's not like it's a lot of work. And it's a great way to pass the time during long, terminally boring teleconference calls...

I like this one.  Another advantage of this design is avoiding everything parallelling the table edges.  This can help make the layout feel larger.  Enjoy, Chuck!

David and Dave - Thanks a lot (mucho gracias) - Either a desert
town like El Centro and/or Valley town (Sanger) will be on the
front side of the scene divider. Desert will be in the back.

Strictly from an aesthetic standpoint, El Centro and Ocotillo Wells make nice-sounding names for the front and back, respectively.

David and Dave...

Hmmm, where's the meat in that Dave sandwich?
