Walthers NE cabooses are available

I was at the Model Railroad Shop in Piscataway NJ today, and they had the NE cabooses in stock for $24 each.  Other than the modification of the underframe to accept body-mounted McHenry couplers, the model is exactly the same as the original Life-Like version, including the trucks.  In addition, the metal wheels have flanges larger than the original MTL wheels and it is very unlikely that they will run on Atlas c55 trackage.

And, the cupola sides of the PC and CR cabooses are still black.

I saw a Chessie and C&O the other night at another shop. Very dissapointing. Glad I didn't take a chance and order any for our shop. I think the trucks and wheels look worse than before.

They got a new sheriff? There was no press release.

I only hope they open up product decision-making to the modelers they want to buy the crap. Maybe it won't be crap then; and sit on store shelves until it has to be marked down, and then the clan has opportunity to complain N scale doesn't sell. Walthers just needs to stop the WV leadership tactics.

I certainly hope they have a spy on Railwire by now, too. Here's where the feedback rubber hits the road. Then again, I don't think they can handle the truth.

Walthers has the potential to produce quality  N Scale-especially new industries..

I do hope they will not use the lack of commercial success of these cars as an excute to cut back N-scale.

OTOH I received two of their SIECO pulpwood cars, and they are looking good.

I did receive the PC caboose.

It looks better with Atlas metal lowpros on it.

Yeah, it needs to be lowered.

But I do like having another PC caboose on the roster.

If the new sheriff had any influence at all, he would have pulled the plug on this debacle, or at least recognized what a boner it is and slashed the price to get them out the door.  I did see the WM version, and I confess the paint looks good, and the couplers are a plus,  but the model itself offers zero improvement over the old.  I wouldn't pay more than 9 or 10 for it and only that much because of the coupler.

Got a feeling that you hold off enough and they will be in the $10.00 range before you kinow it.  Also saw them at Timonium and the older versions actually looked better.

I have a bunch of these from the original realease that are stripped, and I am trying to scrape those softball-sized rivets down to size.  And of course, major lowering is in order.  Eventually I'll have some passable LV cabs!
