In light of rave reviews , I am passing this on . Not sure if the price is good but I just got this today .

After witnessing a home built applicator, I decided I go with one I know won't fry me, and works.

I built the Z Trains version.  It was very simple with the instructions given at the link, for even a novice electrician.

There should be no concern over being fried.

If built correctly (i.e. you tape/heat shrink all connections, use a non-conductive houseing, etc).  There is little danger from the home built ones.  The only way they can shock you is if you touch both the screen and the ground stud.  and that will get you on the commercial unit too.  And as Lee's Weekend update attests, it works . . . .

If you saw the one I did.  You'd have been concerned about being fried.   

Either way, I like the Grassmaster, and at $170 it felt it was well worth the purchase.

I built the 'high powered' fly swatter version and it needs to have the charge dissipated after each use and it isn't a small zap by any means.  Perhaps this is the one mcjaco had seen.

Is it better than the Asshater 754?

I picked up a Heki applicator from Scenic Express a while back. It was cheaper $125 if I remember, and doesn't need batteries. It has a regulator box that allows it to be powered with anywhere from 12V-20V. They suggest putting alligator clips on the pickups and cliping it to your rails where ever you need to use it. It works great and has a pretty wide coverage area.
