Kato's SD80MAC

What version are the SD80MACs based off of?  Pre CR split or post CR split with the red recessed marker lights removed as they are on NS units?  I really have not been able to find a decent pic of any of the Kato models, not even on their site. With these units only delivered to CR they would compliment my 90's Pennsy fleet perfectly.

IF none of the Kato models has the recessed marker lights has anybody successfully retrofit the shells for them?

I believe they have the correct nose with marker lights (before, you know, NS and CSX defiled them). The photos on ModelTrainStuff.com look like they have the right spots for them (as opposed to the UP and CP units which didn't have the recesses).

They are the from the Conrail era and before CSX and NS took the welder to them. (Sorry these aren't exactly stock, but you get the idea).  The paint jobs are stock Kato units though.

Where do you guys source your decals?  I have 4 MACs on order and will be repainting them DGLE.

How much room under the shell for a pair of micro LEDs in the nose?

As Ian said, plenty of space but it also helps to have a Dremel and not be afraid to use it...  ;D ;D ;D

I get most of my decals from Microscale for the patches and other workings.  I've also used Highball Graphics and Shellscale in the past with good results.
