Kato GEVO Photos Up

At http://www.katousa.com...   They look exactly as I expected, though a little short on warning decals.  I'd rather put warning decals on than grabirons, but that's just me.

They also continue the problem of other Kato yellow frame stripe UP units by not clearly showing the stripe continuing into the yellow part of the paint.

Overall, probably perfect runners, not quite as nice as the FVM units, ie. no surprises at all (which is why I like Kato)

Also more info on some of the other new announcements, but MAXI-1 fans are going to have a cow,  because it looks like it has the dreaded conspicuity stripes.  I'm fine with that, but I know some of you are not....

Conspcuity
stripes are fine by me on the Maxi I.  The single road nunber will effectively cramp my plans as I was shopping for 2-3 cars initially, but I'm not inclined to renumber them unless it becomes necessary.

The APL blue containers are absolutely contemporary to the conspicuity stripes so those who were hoping to buy the set and sell the containers on the trading post may decide against this version.  The conspicuity stripes may be easily covered with weathering although I'm wondering how to protect them during the weathering process myself.

I'm buying one, for now and contemplating how others might proceed.  Perhaps Kato intends to sell repeated runs of these the way they have with the GE AC4400 and Maxi IV models covering various decorations as time goes by.  If that is the case, they can expect my money on a regular schedule...

Looks like someone at Kato USA is a fan of terrestrial hack radio and the term is used to "celebrate" Rock in October.  ::)

For the ES44AC's  they have:

   - Boy Scout Unit 2010
   - Race for the Cure Unit 7400

Also the 7xxx units - which are lettered differently - does anyone know if these have detail differences with the 54xx units?

Ugh, more grabirons to shave off....  :'( :'( :'(

I see they still have their aversion to showing the air tanks.

IT'S THE SAME DAMN PHASE!!!  Kato... You SUCK!  Yes, Lou... they have detail differences... the whole damn radiator compartment is different, and the cab door is on the other side... among like 50 million other things... an early SD40-2 has more in common with a post-1980 SD40-2 than an early phase GEVO and the ones built in the lat several years...

Don't tease me like that!  I just spent a couple hours trying to figure out how to get decals for both of them.
Can't model worth a darn, but can research like an SOB.

I wonder if they got the goofy low rear light right on the BNSF unit.
Good to see they keep the try and true mech from the -9. ;D
Which ever side of the track I am on is the right side.

Robbman, relax, man!!!  :)

They haven't said they are doing the 7xxx - I was just speculating!

Just to be sure, you're saying the 7xxx's are different, not saying that the 54xx are wrong or something?

[ok, rrpicturearchives is down, but I looked at the 7400 shots, and for sure lots and lots of
detail differences - dynamic brake vents, etc...   definitely not close - but again, Kato's not doing
them - at least not yet]

I received the Kato newsletter and it had a group picture of all the units.
The CP were back to back, the UP were back to back but the BNSF were back to front.
hhmmmm....

I wonder if they got the goofy low rear light right on the BNSF unit.
