Set the digital on the lower N scale main last night and took this pic. It's not very fancy but it told me what I wanted to know.  ;D

On the Z front I scratchbuilt this building this past week.So far the only investment is time and labor.

Building is 65' wide x 85' long x 40' to the peak tall.

Finally got to do some modeling and make some progress on various projects.

The M&StL modified 55000-series auto boxcar, based on the article in the first issue of CNWHS Modeler, is progressing.  Lower sill, ladders, roof bracing, roofwalk, brake gear, stirrups added since the last update.  Most of the work is done but still a few details to add such as door tracks and grab irons.

And, inspired by Rich Yourstone's X46A, I started an X46 and X46A of my own.  The Deluxe non-roofwalk-verison car bodies were originally for another project that I went in another direction with, so I used them for this instead and had to etch brass roof supports to mount Plano roofwalks.  Brakewheels from GMM, Doors from MTL.  Just roof grabs and BLMA stirrups remain to be added.

Lots of flying plaster this week.  I cast or carved about 15 foot of rockwork.  Rockwork that is ready for painting has been sprayed with India ink.  Other rockwork that still needs detailed carving, notably the rockwork in McRae canyon and the short Paulson tunnel, has not been sprayed.  Rockwork that will eventually be covered in snow at Farron is also still a work in progress...

Looking past Coykendahl Forest Service Road and up Pup Creek:

Looking back along Pup Creek:

East Portal of Bulldog Tunnel and Brooklyn Creek bed:

East Portal of Paulson Tunnel in McRae Canyon (First pass carving only):

West Portal of Paulson Tunnel in McRae Canyon (First pass carving only):

Next week I hope to finish all the rock carving so I can begin painting it all.

Yes; but if you look really, really close you will notice it was built by a Maple Leafs fan who's brain has turned to a little pile of goo......................... ::)
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

I like the box cars Bryan.  Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Several weeks of catch up here.  Finally got to play with Kevin's grassinator.  HUGE fun and am still learning.  I think it should make a noise when in service - like some kind of lawn machinery or something.   ;D  Anyway, also re-aquainted myself with tree making techniques.  The back side of the section is more-or-less complete.  Now to work on the front side.

Well as your railway is set in British Columbia, we would have no objection to you becoming a Canucks fan . . .

P.S.  Very nice looking car - would love to see you try a PGE one.

Those are bitchin' rock faces....And grass - When I used mine for the first time, I added Silifor
Prarie Tufts, cut down in size from small to larger to intertwine with the static grass.

Richie and Dave V, I already want a 44 tonner, but that 060 is looking like it has a lot of play value, too!

Lee

Sounds good to me.  Got 2, so I can loan one to somebody.  Hope the upcoming 70 tonner is just as good.

A big ole' THANK YOU goes out to David K Smith who daytripped it down the Shore to help me with creating a cover shot for the article that's pending for the Nov/Dec N Scale magazine.  It was great to meet David in person, and to work with him (more like watch him work!) to create some amazing images with the Helicon system.  The experience has made me a "true believer" and as soon as the dollars make sense again around here, I'm going to see about adding that to my arsenal...  Anyway, here's some of the fun...

David at the throttle, stacking those shots...

Aside from innovative technology, a good photo shoot also requires paint cans, cardboard boxes, and chunks of foam.

Fawning admirers...   ::)

Taking advantage of the set up with my crummy camera...

and a "close but no cigar" free sample (this is not the cover shot being submitted)

Again, it was great to work with DKS, and to personally see some of his work.

I was able to squeeze out some time yesterday and worked a little on a long term project, a model of the Contra Costa Ferry in Z scale.  This will be part of a larger diorama of the Slip and the yard area around Port Costa Ca.  I did this first in N scale, but decided to go ahead and scale down to Z for the NMRA show next July here on the West Coast.  Cut out of model aircraft ply and laser board.

Cheers

Finally got to do some building myself. Here is two progress shots of the 6-Track Train Shed. Next week, it will be in the paint booth and should get the roof. Now just waiting on C55 track to arrive.

Great work this weekend everyone!

I spent the evening practising for some upcoming product photgraphy with an old boxcar:
