Weekend Update 8/8/2010

Another week has flown by. Who's gotten what done?

I'm wrapping up this Z scale hotel. It may look like a stock kit, but it's actually a mirror image, so it can face an opposite corner. All of the walls were broken apart, new first-floor doors and windows grafted on from another kit, working signs added, etc.

More changes , more details pending on UP (OWR&N) 4924 . If you think it looks bad now , just wait for the many errors to come .

Looking good Richie; but I'm confused...exactly what kind of trailer is that.........? ;D

Work on the GHQ CN 8 hatch reefers is slowly coming along - nice kits.

Ironically; I was feeling somewhat "UP 1950-ish" this week so I ran some TOFC; until four flats took the plunge..... some TLC and we got everything back to normal...sort of....

...it helps to have the hitches in correctly.....otherwise.....sigh  :(
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

I managed to finish the ground cover and ballasting at Cascade - the foot of Eastbound pushers ops - and messed around with single-handed pusher operations (see Youtube link if you are interested).

Richie,
You have a nice transformation going on there.

Thanks Tony  , Craig from NTrak contacted me for its inclusion in their mag , and because of that I am adding more details than  I had originally planned . If nothing else it will make others work appear better than perfect .

Since I gave myself a staycation between the old job and new I pummeled a huge task in BYR's ACME Labs over a period of two days.... The motive power manager of the WM and BYR decided it was time to add "updated electronics" to 26 locomotives on the combined roster.

Bummer , thats one of the good things about not having a layout , no half twist double gainers into the big flat hard thing .

Nothing you do is easy , and it always comes out so crisp in detail and finish .

Not too much new here.  Just returned from a week in Prince George, BC photographing trains while trying to avoid black bears and forest fires.

This week I built two test sections to examine the feasability of scratchbuilding a PGE-BCR 7100-7105 series twin trailer flatcar.  The top section is one end to work out the coupler and truck mounting requirements; the bottom sectiton is a slice out of the full depth centre sill.

I also did some more work on the helix occupancy detection circuit.

What - no photos of your -2s running on Chris' layout?

Life-Like PA1 with Microscale decals... This is a 4-image Helicon composite plus a proto background and headlight.

Tim..

No model shots unfortunately, but I did get to tour the N scale Chetwynd Sub.  Here are a few random prototype / wildlife shots.
