Just was checking out the Train Worx site and some new pics are up of up coming releases and I came across these http://www.train-worx.com/4-86-nw.htm my question is did N&W have a maroon boxcar with black doors and what era would these have been in? Between Bluford and Train Worx their killing me with these awesome boxcars! My fleet is getting huge hopefully it was common to see 30 or more of these in a train back in the day!

Any block NW maroon car is a Southern shop repaint... i.e, post NS merger.  I'm guessing Pat missed the SOU repaint stencil on the picture of the car he used for that model, otherwise he'd have used the correct repaint date (they're not build/rebuild dates... but I digress)

I've seen videos of 1 train on the NS Pokey during the 1990's that was almost solid autoparts cars with a couple of autoracks on the end - 185?????  I forget the train, I'm sure Rob knows.

I guess I never would have called that color maroon- rather a light oxide red or light boxcar red.  I'd have to dig through some negatives and files but the NW did indeed have these cars on their autoparts trains.  I remember seeing several of them on the old Wabash here in central Illinois.

N&W switched from black to boxcar red on boxcars late in N&W's history (1981?) - Robbman would know this better than me.

See Robbman's post above re: the black door.
