SND144PS Sound output...

I installed the SND144PS into one of my loco's and the output volume, even after set to the respective max per sound as well as overall volume is still very low. It's not a box/baffle output issue, I'm purely talking speaker output alone. I have seen various posts/video of the SND144PS in action but it's somewhat subjective based on the capture methods. I've read in some cases that the steam sounds are poor quality WAV's and require "flashing" the decoder with the new sound bites? I would have expected the output volume of the QSI or Tsunami, while not the same audio quality.

I've got a sound project set aside and was considering using this decoder. When I get to it, we can compare some notes.  ;D

But I want to know if it's worth even using it, if the sounds are changed out in regards to the steam sounds since OOTB its horrible.
