Got lucky in East Baltimore... NS GP38-2s

A few weeks ago I got an email from a gentleman who had just moved into the area (about 4 mins from my old apartment, actually), and knew of me from the CRHS. Turns out, he's younger guy, just got a job in B'more (working on engineering the MTA Red Line), and was looking for someone to railfan with.

Being a country boy, he had never really spent much time in the city, so I decided to show him the fun stuff first.

Ben and I headed down into the city, specifically to see some cool stuff I turned up on google maps (Hello Clinton St!) and while we were poking around what I figured would be a lot of rail, but not a lot of trains, I spotted a headlight coming towards us.

Proof positive that Norfolk Southern DOES run trains in daylight in Baltimore:

Afterwards we headed down to St. Denis to meet up with the crew there, and ran into Carl. Great to see you man!

High hood!  Tasty!

He's looking north toward the 95 and 895 bridges.  Penn Mary would be on the right.  This is the old PRR track that accessed the back of GM.  Curious, where were these untethered locomotives heading?  Were they picking up a cut from Penn Mary?

They were heading down the Bear Creek Running Track on what used to be YPBV-34:

I'm guessing they were heading down there for the marine terminal.
