Remember the Charlie Vlk speculation for NTS awhile back. Charlie alluded to developing a whole new couplers system. I wonder if this is his ? ? ?

 Each system has it followers, and both advantages and dis-advantages.

     Micro-Trains is widely used, by maybe 60% -65% of the "N" modelers as far as our surveys can tell. But its big dis-advantage is its cost, it adds about $4.00 to $6.00 to the retail price of rolling stock.

Hard to believe...these are like a $1.00 a pair in a 10 pack.

I really like non working couplers on my unit trains. My grain train is entierly the old unimates. Kind of a pain to get set up at first, but in NTrak world, its great to have a coupler system that wont come apart. They really work well for DPU'ed trains. But i always have the rear unit running 1 speed step (128 speed stepping) to keep the slack bunched.

I like the idea in principle.   There is definitely a market for a decent-looking, cheap unit train coupler, IMHO.

It has to at least be two things:
1. Smaller
2. Short-Shank

I cannot tell with certainty from the drawings that either of these two goals were achieved.  But I'll reserve judgement until I know for sure.

The key is the word interchangable. Would appear by looking at the artwork that the coupler box can accept the CC or MT coupler without modification. Could the emterprising miser with patience and free time buy cars with CC fakies and unassembled MT, assemble them himself and save a few bucks on a car? That'd be stupid, but the key is still interchangable...

To be ahead of the curve, drop the truck, make'm easy peasy body mountable!

I'm alright with sacrificing functionality as long as the appearance is better -- i.e. they should couple up considerably closer.

Considering that they seem to be shooting for the long-train/Ntrak crowd, I would think that closer coupling would be something they'd like to see as well and they would be almost certain to be running considerably greater than 9" or even 12" so shouldn't have any problems running cars much closer.

If they're smart enough to make a short shank with the "self centered" spring, this could be the answer to the IM F-7 coupling distance issue.  I've been using the front dummies from Life Like E units with some success in this regard.

I definitely see value in the unit train scenario.  If they produce a coupler box that I can use on my fleet of MDC hoppers, we'll have a real winner.  Ultimately I want to block my hoppers in groups of 5 cars with operating couplers at the ends, and dummies down the middle.

But since it's ConCor, my initial guess is that it will be all wrong...

This looks like a McHenry w/o the spring  - and operating knuckle.  There could be a niche for it.  This might be an interesting year for the coupler market... :
