Found a new spot for some photos.  Franconia Springfield Metro/VRE station.  This is the beginning of triple track to D.C.  Also got an overhead walkway over the tracks.  Unfortunately nothing came thru the 2 hours I was there yesterday.

Overhead view with at least a Metro train.

Posted this on the Atlas board and Ed seemed to like it, so I'll share it here.  Ed, I don't remember exactly where I took this.  Do remember the train and that's about it.

Bailey's Wye - Baltimore - that's Russell Street above and you are standing next to Warner Street.  i spent many hours in the grey building to the right of the loco in the background.  that's Paradox.  the locos appear to be heading to Riverside after a trip around the wye?

That's what I thought. I think it's that brick building (and the relatively good shape of the bridge) that was throwing me off.

Ahh yes, Paradox... I was there (but only once) back in 2000ish.

Chris,

The old bridge had a nice gentle curve, but the new bridge's track appears straight.  Does that affect the approach, causing a sharper curve entering the new trackage?  Or do the trains run under limited speeds here and a sharper curve doesn't affect operations?

Just curious,
Dave

Yeah the new bridge is straight, but there seem to be gentle enough curves at each end.

From inside the old bridge you can see it line up with the tracks

It is odd why they didn't curve the new bridge.

Old bridge is prettier.  I'm guessing that they want to run taller stuff through there?
