Can't say I've ever seen anything like this before!  What could have caused this?

My guess is that a look at the other side would show a derailment or some other form of serious accident has caved in the other side enough to allow the roof to bulge like that.

A load of roll paper stock and a derailment would be a safe guess......would bounce up off that nice roof and balloon it real good !
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

That's what I was thinking. If you look through the open door, other side looks to be smashed in pretty good.

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.

Definately a derailment and not me after a big bowl of Steak and Shake Chili  ;D

Look at the overall condition of the car. Damage to ends and visible side. Mangled Grab's and bent ladders. One forklift didn;t do that much damage.

I think someone didn't pay attention to the expiration date on the car and it swelled when the contents spoiled.

The way Athearn and MT are putting out leftover cars with weathering has me wondering if they might try putting a soldering iron or somehow heating to deform some leftover cars to market them as derailed cars awaiting dispositon.  In this RTR world, why not some Ready to Not Run cars?

I agree.  ...looks like it flipped, and the heavy load hit the roof.  (Looks like it wasn't just compressive force bulging it, but also pressure from the inside.)

I guess it must be a wrecked car.  Sure would be interesting to model!  I've got some extra MDC PS1 shells to experiment on.  I'll have to see how it goes.

Looks as if the car was carrying a load of Jiffy Pop popcorn and the car got overheated in the hot summer sun.

My vote for the winner  ;D ;D ;D

I would guess dust explosion. The roof buckling is too uniform for a shifting load. The Sides show no deformation, crumpling.
