Ed,

You could relocate the old Schlitz plant that used to be at 495 and 895. I don't remember if it had rail service but as long as you're moving it, you might as well take some other liberties. I just remember the huge glass facade and the one large copper (?) brewing tank inside. And you'd have opportunity for some big ole' (tip of the hat to your Conrail web site) boxcars to haul all the big bumpers out.

That's what I was thinking, actually. Or something like the the one with the Boh guy on it now.

The old Heileman Brewery in Landsdowne definately had rail service - some of the tracks are still there now.

The building was largely intact when I moved to Catonsville back in 99. I think it closed in 96.

You can see a few track remnants in this view:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Lansdowne+MD&g=Lansdowne&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=108670877067729118954.000001131b92b89fc7d23&sll=39.245,-76.660556&sspn=0.138329,0.256119&ll=39.232635,-76.671422&spn=0.000477,0.000862&t=h&z=20

The trackage in 2000 was more extensive (the site has been heavily modified)

I believe most have been retired due to the FRA 40 year rule. But a few show up now and then in nonrev service or after an FRA Extension. I used to see these cars on the old coal trestle in Newport Ky. That Weideman Beer converted into an unloading platform for cars of Barley Malt and Hops.

I am quite pleased with the two Exact Rail Milwaukee Road one's I got and as soon as they get dirty they will enter barley service for the Stratton Brewing facility in Northhill................
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!
