I was browsing Atlas to see if they had any picture of there coming models and found the new picture for the -8. Take a look at the picture on top of the announcement.

I though they were going to fix the gaps.

Ex. LMS. CR and CN had the LMS C40-8W's on a split lease and when CR was split, the LMS fleet was divided between CN, CSX and NS. CN got 11 of them.

So it's like a hasty patch job?

Actually - there are TWO gaps.  The gap under the FUEL tank is prototypical and was NEVER going to be fixed.

The GAP they ARE FIXING is the misfitting cab parts that creates an ugly gap between the cab and the frame near the drip strip above the battery boxes. They DID say that would be fixed.

It does not show on the first CSX run - but it was very apparent on the Conrail units.

Whoa, I didn't appreciate till now how obvious the underframe gap is:

Has anyone tried to fit a Kato underframe skirt to one of these models?

The gap over the fuel tank is the one I am talking about. It really noticeable without the motor in there, the cab gap looks fine. You would figure they would have made the fuel tank a little taller to cover the motor, made some king of thing plastic to simulate the frame in that area. The model look fine everywhere else but there.

I donno, it doesn't bother me...  (a first!)

But weren't the C40-8's supposed to be LATE Stealth - yellow end / white roof??

Hm, may be easier just to scratchbuild?  IIRC, the Kato part has some of the fuel tank molded onto it.

The problem is the shell sits way too high on the frame.....  I started lowering mine by doing some selective trimming, But they could still go lower.

Why couldn't they sit like the standard cab Dash 8's?   They looked pretty good.
