From the MT site --- anyone know the details of this?   Are these supposed to be NMRA-compliant?  Lo-profile?  Metal?

Same design as the 36" wheels on the RPO.  Pizza-cutters are finally going to be of a past era.

Which means we should all keep some, since they will become as collectable as EVERY other MT product!  (Insert snark here) ::)

So, they definitely look better than the Atlas replacement plastic wheels, and offer about the same geometry.
I don't have a need for more truck packs, though, as I'm gradually moving toward body mounted couplers.

Exciting news for you fleet builders out there, though!

In this era of "greeness," MT should offer to take back the oldies (really see them as collector items?) for reprocessing and maybe a couple dollar coupon back to sender to cover cost of shipping.

Why dump more into landfills? We only can use so many wheels as inventory for changeouts at the shop scenes on layouts.

At least they have been listening. Or have they maybe noticed some slowing of sales not attributable to the slow economy? Now they need to work on the height situation.

An irony stated many times elswhere that KD/MT, initially the purveyor of jewel-like rolling stock taking the scale out of the depths of toys, has been forced to keep up with the advancing of production resulting in more prototypical equipment.

I'm hoping that with the smaller flanges, the extra open space caused by excessive ride height might be noticed by MT.  I really like their prototype based products, but the ride height kills the appearance.  This may become even more pronounced with the smaller flange.  Hopefully Joe and the designers at MT will take notice.

I know the high ride height looks even more exaggerated with my FVM low pro wheels.  The fleet of former FEC and CR, 3 bay Ortner hoppers I have for P&W Tilcon stone trains look like they are extremely top heavy and ready to fall over.

I think they have noticed.  The Evans hopper is a good ride height.

Looks like they are plastic.  It would be nice if MT could cast them in a nice basic burnt umber kind of color, instead of the shiny black or brown.

It says it will run on Code 55 track, which is good news.  I wonder how they would run on Code 40 (but I'm probably pushing it with that).

I wonder what MT means by "[they] will stay on your track"?  Is that a reference to a reduced tendency to derail when pushing on truck-mounted couplers?   If so, then I wonder how that is supposed to work.

If they fixed that, I would definitely buy more MT.

Is there any link to pix that show the height?

They do work on code 40.  I think that what they mean with "staying on track" is a reference to how truck mounted couplers want to pull the flange above the rail in a curve.  With low pros, this ended up in a derailment for some.
