Been on the Nimitz a few times.  Even got to take a grand tour of the nuclear power plants when I was stationed with Navy Reactors in VA.

 It would have been nice if they had included a shot of the D-day Memorial near me, in Bedford, Va. the "Bedford Boys" were among the first to hit the beach that day. By nightfall, the tiny town of Bedford had won the dubious honor of having the highest, per capita, death rate of any place in the country. I feel lucky that I got to meet some of the men that survived that. The last of them died this past year. Although I love trains, in my humble opinion, this is not the way to honor them, or their sacrifice.

Thank you .. I only wish I could have stayed longer, and to this day I miss the open sea. There is nothing like watching the sun set in the west, while you are in the middle of the ocean, knowing that in the grand scheme of things, you are but one minor and insignificant cog in the wheel of life .. but that was a long time ago .. I retired 10 years ago ..

Fortunately, my current job allows me to work with today's young soldiers, marines, sailors, airman and coast guardsmen on a daily basis, and I am proud to report that our country is protected by the best we have to offer as a nation. They don't ask for much, other than the support you just rendered .. and the tools to do their jobs .. God Bless them all ..

Feel the same way as you John.  I retired over 20 years ago and today's military is really different and more modern than what I remember.  Also did over 20 years as a contractor working for the Navy in D.C.

Actually there were a lot of RN assets there..here is a list of units that were awarded Battle Honors:

Operation Neptune, covering and support forces in the Channel, Dover to Ushant, for landings in France, 6 June to 3 July 1944.

Awarded to Squadron numbers: 700 warships, 800, 804, 808, 816, 819, 838, 846, 848, 849, 850, 854, 855, 881, 885, 886, 896, 897.

Awarded to HM aircraft carrying ships: Ajax, Belfast, Emperor, Glasgow, Pursuer, Rodney, Tracker, Warspite

If you look closer the Avenger is in RN markings...some of these units deployed from RN Bases in England to fly cover against U boats and S boats and flewoff the HMS Emperor  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Emperor_(D98)    and Tracker  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Emperor_(D98)   , both deployed with Avengers in January 1944 replacing older ac.

Not with US Markings though. Even any British carrier groups were not responsible for support over the invasion task forces. That fell to the RAF and 9th Air Force on D-Day and the first few days. I don;t recall seeing any carriers in the Task group organizations  but do recall several ASW Hunter Killer groups operating to the south to interdict any Uboats.

But I digress. I got all the Navy cars when they came out and that's it for MTL Collector cars for me. But the Miltary collectors series seemd to do ok.

Did you notice the "eye screw" in the middle of the roof on the car ? Is it supposed to be suspended in a christmas tree or ...
