CR SD40-2 description:

Quote
These 40’ standard box cars with single doors are painted box car red with black and white logos, white slogans and white lettering. They were built in June 1942 by Pressed Steel Car Co., serviced in October 1949, and run on Bettendorf trucks. These cars were part of a large order of all-steel boxcars built to meet the demands of WWII traffic. In 1949, at least 150 cars from series 147750-148549 were repainted into this unique paint scheme stenciled with “Rocket Freight Service” on the “Route of the Rockets”.

Um...

So I want to model this:
http://www.danstrainyard.us/webphotos/conrail/SD40-2/CR%206366%20Altoona%201%204%2009001.JPG

What would they be used for in the NS era?

NS uses those as helpers for the Altoona area.

Everything.

The ones in the Altoona helper pool are dwindling due to the SD40E rebuilds.

Damn those SD40E's look nothing like a SD40-2, more like a SD50.

Does NS currently use SD40-2's for anything other than helpers?

Thinking if I buy a set to detail up I will just sell them on e-bay.

I see plenty of them in use on locals.  Crap9s are the rule in my territory for road trains, so usually any SD40-2 in consist is DIT.

There's still some 40-2's roaming around here on Delmarva.

Looking forward to seeing what you can do with modern stuff.
