Richie, Once it is mounted in the display I hope to run it off a fish tank air pump (quiet). Once I get my mill going who know what I will build.

Hi Chris the tender was made out of all styrene using various glues with a few small brass parts I machined. I have been working on it on and off about two months in between the other projects.

Thanks Dave did you ever start on one yourself I know I remember seeing a post on the A board you were watching Max's build with great anticipation or did they convert you to an all Conrail guy now ;D??

Here is a few pics of my I1sa that I am working on I have just a few more small details to go on the tender then it is off to the casting department to make a few copies ;D.
Then I need to finish up the actual engine and get that to paint but as you all know all good things take time.

That tender is awesome! Congratulations.  Any chance a few will make it to the retail market?

World's Greatest Hobby on Tour came to Chantilly, Virginia, this weekend.  Strasburg Railroad had tables there, and they had some Athearn nineteenth century rolling stock.  I talked to the representatives, and they stated that they had been doing a ballet with Athearn to try to get them to produce either the old MDC 2-8-0 or 2-6-0, but so far, no success.  They think that eventually Athearn will do one of their little teakettles in Strasburg.  I also talked to the Athearn representatives, and they told me that they would be announcing more nineteenth century 2-8-0s, 2-6-0s and rolling stock later this year.  They confirmed what some have stated that Athearn was making some money on the nineteenth century equipment, but that their big money makers were the big steam and the modern stuff.

Nothing photo worthy on the Housatonic this weekend.  I wired up the auto reverser for the Canaan Wye and most of the feeders for the first power district.  I hope to finish the feeders for the first district by this weekend, then I have the Amherst show in Springfield next Saturday and Sunday.

Work continues on the custom curved turnout built by Chris333 that I installed last week.  As you can see, I painted the turnout this week.  I'm confident that ballasting can now continue through this area, since it has passed testing with a lot of running trains this week.  I also installed a Caboose Industries 224S ground throw, which powers the frog.  You can see the repainted area adjacent to the track where I cut out the scenery base to run wires "underground."  A little lightweight spackle and paint covers the wires.  I'm really enjoying the runaround track that this turnout added to my layout.




P.S. Please ignore the splotchy ground cover.  That's merely a base coat and will eventually be covered by more realistic ground cover and trees.

I spent the weekend putting finishing touches on a Companion Volume to the Kalmbach Steel Mill book. The Kalmbach book will be going to the printers Monday and should be ready by April. The companion volume should be ready in about two weeks. It will be available from my website and Amazon.com.  Here is shot of the cover.

I like the motive power selection for your cover art!  But as you probably know, the WM never got that close to the mill...  The stone train would be dropped off at the PBR yard at Sparrows Point...  Still, it's the thought that counts!
