Good point about multiple diesels and steam double headers.  However, with todays DCC, it would be easy to set up steam and run double or triple headers with 1 throttle.  Would also be easy to set up a snapper (that's a readend helper for you non PRR types) using DCC.

DCC would make it easy to co ordinate speed tables and run them but you still have the mindset of one steam engine per train to deal with.  I go to various model RR open houses which are invariably HO and even in HO scale which has a lot more steam available it is rare that I see doubleheaded steam engines but I do see four diesel unit lash ups [especially in an ABBA configuration].

If a plastic "Santa Fe" type (of Santa Fe style) ever came out, I'd buy several and double-head them just as Santa Fe did. If a "Russian" Decapod ever comes out, my beloved Frisco double-headed them for the Ozark hills at a thundering 20MPH (any faster, and they'd leave miles of kinked rail behind them!) Few people understand how common it was to double-head steam, if only for short distances, for grades and starting a train.
