I haven't yet met a Texan who even thinks he's a member of the U.S.A.

What I don't get are some of the "repaints." Wouldn't the road number, at the very least, be re-stenciled (or masked over) before it hit the rails again?

And I'm sorry, but KCS is DEEFINITELY not a Southwestern road . . . . .

Maybe not in your view since you think Baton Rouge, but they did go to Beaumont and Dallas in their previous configuration. As far as the RR's were concerned, any railroad west of the Miss. and south of St Louis was in the SWFB for purposes of rate publication. So, pre mergers, MP, MKT, SSW, and SLSW were southwest lines.

Fair enough, though I have yet to meet a Texan who considers themselves part of the Southwest either.

Weren't U of Texas, A&M, Baylor, Tech, SMU, TCU, and Houston in the old Southwest Conference?

What's the nature of this repaint? I don't exactly understand why SP would slap "expensive" just paint on a boxcar and put it back on the road without restenciling the roadnumber back on. What are they trying to cover over?

Something like this I suspect:

Notice that taggers are becoming smart enough to leave the road number intact.

Or, in some cases of extreme creativity, work them into the new design.
