Which track do you use?

There is a thread over on the Atlas Forum where it was confirmed that the Atlas code 55 flextrack mold was irreparably damaged. They are expecting test shots of the new mold this week with a new shipment in February. It would be interesting to know how the mold was damaged.

Seriously... M.E. produces in-house. One of the guys I've met in the periphery of the local club works or worked part-time there pulling product from the injection machine. He did mention that their mold was starting to show its age and the flash cleanup was getting noticeable.

I was on the fence about which c55 flex to use. (A or ME)

The more I think about the economics of this I have to go with ME, the more we keep our $$$ in our own backyard the better off we all are.

I use Atlas C55 on my layout for turnouts and flex. Unfortunately since the mold was damaged, I'm at a stand still until the new one is back online and pumping out track for February. Its kind of a good thing too as now I can spend that money on rolling stock and structures.

I'm planning on picking up some C80 to finish the remaining 20' to make a complete circuit as it will end up in the off layout staging yard anyway.

Mike, since you're handlaying your turnouts, why not go the rest of the way and handlay everything? Or do you have too much mileage to cover to make this practical? Just a thought.

Probably a bit more work than I'd like to get into. I like the idea of building my own turnouts and feel it's a valuable skill learn, however, I'd also like to be able to run trains when I get a basement. My plans are to model CN and CP mainlines in southern Ontario, and though I've no idea what I'm looking at in terms of square footage (since my basement is in a house I haven't seen yet), I imagine it'd be a lot of track. I'll lay the mainline and then go back and add switches as they are completed. Not having a layout now for better than five years really makes me want a mainline up and running fast.
