I emailed Athearn and it's like this... send them photo's if you want something produced. I sent them a boatload of shots of the early car, so if they do a run of 12 Procor without the conspicuency stripes, you're quite welcome  ;D

I think a lot of their research must have been recent photo's of cars with the stripes... makes sense if they look at railcarphotos.com.

Which is a shame, and is a pet peeve.

Stan has very high standards for what he puts on the site, which is good on one hand, but on the other there are only so many folks who will put up with his requirements, which reflect a relatively unique documentation "style" he's had for many decades. That means the pool of significant (volume) contributors is very small, and his standards currently highly biased towards what can be photographed today with modern DSLRs, knowing the standards in advance. Lots and lots (and lots!) of potential reference info for pre-2005 subjects is being rejected because the bar can't be raised retroactively on old photos.

Hmm, interesting point. Perhaps there should be a RailcarPhotos Retro to house good stuff that can't meet current criteria.

Before digital most photographers did not shoot that many roster shots, as film and developing add up.

These days I can take a 100 pix without blinking.

In seeking older reference shots, we can't be as picky.

And that, my friend, is why I want to build a shrine to Grant Lowry.

I was hoping for another run of the GN units.

I sent Athearn a bunch of links to images on this site http://freight.railfan.ca/ CDN oriented, but lots of useful shots here... and apparently with very lax standards.

I've sent at least three documented corrections to Athearn - and so far, in every case, they released the mistake.

On the other hand, MicroTrains corrected the one mistake I pointed out to them...

MT has repeated mistakes that I've pointed out before like a serial killer.

Joe assures me this will change. ;D
