3 After Market Boilers from Lou D

Lou D has made 3 very nice aftermarket boilers . These have come out very nice IMO . I especially like the straight small ones that I will add a sand dome to just ahead of the cab and use for UP 0-6-0's . I will need to change the cab roof contour to a more rounded type . These do not have molded on hand trails which is a big help . They are not flimsy and I imagine I can fit them on a Bachmann mech with a little grinding . A project for down the road , but with these I am more enthusiastic about diving into .

Those are pretty nicely done repros.

I like em.

I've often thought about some day doing a PRR H (ala Dave Vollmer) with a Bachmann consol, but there are many more projects on the bench ahead of it.

  I have an old shell from Camden & Amboy for the Trix 2-10-0 that alligns the steam chests better on the mec.,but I have never used it.It is pretty crude compaired to these nice shells. I hope he will do a 2-10-0 shell . Then my 2-10-0 will get re born.                          Nate Goodman (Nato).

Actually, I was afraid the layout and photos weren't worthy of such gems.

And now I really want to make a PRR D16sb (and letter it up like Strasburg did) for myself.

By the way, there are some Lou D resin boiler pieces in those iron horses.  The drop-coupler pilot on the M1 is also a Lou D original.  He sent me a bag of parts when I started the M1 project.  He's great people!

The Bachmann 2-8-0 Spectrum mechanism has been out for severall years now and has been more or less proven to be a very good design.  Why it hasn't spawned RR specific shells before now is somewhat of a puzzle.  I thought GHQ might do one as they did for the Kato 2-8-2 but alas, no dice.  In addition to the PRR H series of Consolidations the Bachmann mechanism might also be used as a starting point for a 2-10-0 I1.  More work to be sure but doable and with these mechanism selling so cheap now it may represent our best bet to add onto the list of reliable steam locomotives.

Actually, the Bachmann 2-8-0 is perfect for a Norfolk Southern D3, whilst the D1 and D2 can be done from the Roundhouse engine.
